Windows 8 May Be a Data Hog
If you are using Windows 8 with your Exede Internet service in Colorado, and you aren't on the new Evolution Plan (unlimited data), you may need to read further...
We recently found that Windows 8, in many cases, is using your data even though you aren't using the computer. You see, if your computer is powered on, AND it's connected to the internet, those tiles on the start screen are using data. They are constantly updating info such as stock prices, weather, news, and many other subjects you can customize.
They don't use "tons" of data, but nonetheless, they are using data. This can be remedied very easily by switching to "metered" in Windows settings as follows:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click Network, and then tap or click Connections.
Tap or click the connection you want to change, and then, under Data usage, turn Set as a metered connection on or off.
